My name is Tolga Tanik, I am 37 years old and live in Frankfurt since my birth.  I came to photography as a child through my mother. She always documented our life. At all celebrations and occasions she was behind the camera. In my teens I lost interest temporarily and only regained it later. 

I got into gaming videos through online gaming, then from there into the underground hip hop scene where I filmed the odd interview and also gigs. Later I came back from filming to photography and since 2014 I stayed with it.  

Today I know that photography and film merge and so I am active in both areas - but see myself more as a photographer. My goal is to have my own studio and to be able to make a living from my art at some point. Art knows no age, no nationality, no religion and no borders. In art everything is possible. Everyone can express themselves in their own personal way. That's why it's so important that everyone finds a way to express themselves artistically. I think that this can make the world a better place.  

When it comes to photography, image editing is not to be missed. For me, these two things go hand in hand. That's why all my images are always edited. Some less, some more. There are images where I only develop the raw material, just like the lab used to develop the negatives. But then there are also images that after processing have nothing to do with the original image from the camera.  For me, this is also part of the artistic process. 

Image processing helps me to give a motif my personal signature.  On my YouTube channel I show, among other things, my way to photograph and edit my images. I explain step by step what I do and why. Usually I work with Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop (now for almost 15 years).  

I am very happy to be a part of the Frankfurt art scene and to make my modest contribution to present our city to the outside world.

Mein Name ist Tolga Tanik, ich bin 37 Jahre alt und lebe seit meiner Geburt in Frankfurt.  Zur Fotografie bin ich als Kind über meine Mutter gekommen. Sie hat immer unser Leben dokumentiert. Bei allen Feiern und Gelegenheiten stand sie hinter der Kamera. Im Jugendalter habe ich das Interesse  zeitweise verloren und erst später wieder erlangt. 

Ich bin über das Online Gaming zu Gamingvideos gekommen, von dort aus dann in die Underground HipHop Szene, wo ich das eine oder andere Interview und auch Auftritte gefilmt habe. Später bin ich dann vom Filmen wieder zur Fotografie zurück gekommen und seit 2014 auch dabei geblieben.  

Heute weiss ich, dass Fotografie und Film ineinander übergehen und so bin ich in beiden Bereichen aktiv - sehe mich selbst jedoch eher als Fotograf. Mein Ziel ist ein eigenes Atelier/Studio und das ich irgendwann mal von meiner Kunst leben kann. Kunst kennt kein Alter, keine Nationalität, keine Religion und keine Grenzen. In der Kunst ist alles möglich. Jeder kann sich selbst ausdrücken auf seine ganz persönliche Art und Weise. Deshalb ist es so wichtig, dass jeder Mensch für sich einen Weg findet sich künstlerisch auszuleben. Ich denke, dass dadurch die Welt zu einem besseren Ort werden kann.  

Bei der Fotografie darf die Bildbearbeitung nicht fehlen. Für mich gehen diese beiden Dinge Hand in Hand. Deshalb sind alle meine Bilder immer bearbeitet. Manche weniger, manche mehr. Es gibt Bilder, bei denen ich nur das Rohmateriel entwickle, so wie früher das Labor die Negative entwickelt hat. Dann gibt es aber auch Bilder die nach der Bearbeitung nichts mehr mit dem Originalbild aus der Kamera zu tun haben.  Auch das gehört für mich zu einem künstlerischen Prozess. 

Die Bildbearbeitung unterstützt mich dabei, einem Motiv meine persönliche Handschrift zu verleihen.  Auf meinem YouTube Kanal zeige ich unter anderem meinen Weg zu fotografieren und meine Bilder zu bearbeiten. Dabei erkläre ich, Schritt für Schritt was ich tue und warum. In der Regel arbeite ich dabei mit Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop (mittlerweile seit fast 15 jahren).  

Ich freue mich sehr ein Teil der Frankfurter Kunstszene zu sein und meinen bescheidenen Beitrag zu leisten, um unsere Stadt nach außen hin zu präsentieren.
